Application Specialist
Black Swans Exist
Application Specialist
Oslo, Norway
Our client works at the point where science, automation and customer impact meet. This role gives you the chance to build deep technical expertise while working closely with customers across the pharmaceutical, food and life sciences sectors. You’ll help design and deliver automation solutions that improve laboratory workflows, while building skills that are valued across specialist industries.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with advanced liquid handling systems and complex scientific applications, giving you exposure to projects that combine lab knowledge, software logic and customer-facing work. It’s a role that keeps your technical edge sharp while also developing your ability to lead projects and guide customers through high-value solutions.
You’ll also have the chance to take ownership of your projects from planning through delivery, giving you more influence over your work and a stronger connection to the results you create.
This company also has one of the best, if not THE best, training program in the industry and will actively work with you to spot any skill gaps that you can further develop in. This can also allow you to develop and progress internally over time.
An example being the current manager for this team, who started as an Application Specialist 9 years ago and progressed through multiple positions over time.
What you’ll do
Understanding customer workflows, assays and technical challenges will help you design automation methods that solve real laboratory problems. You’ll develop, test and optimise applications for Hamilton liquid handling systems, making sure workflows are reliable, reproducible and aligned with customer needs.
In essence, it is a programming heavy position but with the focus on tailoring your solution for each individual customer, meaning there is quite a bit of variety and creativity needed.
You’ll also manage project communication, support installations, troubleshoot complex issues and deliver training that helps customers get the most from their systems. Over time, your expertise will grow, and you’ll become a trusted specialist involved in demonstrations, proof-of-concept work and continuous improvement across the team.
What you’ll need
- A degree in Life Sciences, Physics or Engineering or similar.
- A solid understanding of programming principles. The exact programming language is not so important but useful experience could be in Python, C or C# etc.
- Strong algorithmic thinking and experience with method programming, workflow optimisation and troubleshooting of automated equipment would be highly desirable. Ideally you might have some experience with liquid handling robots.
- Practical laboratory experience, ideally in molecular biology, cell biology or clinical diagnostics would be very desirable.
- Fluent English, with a Norwegian or another Scandinavian language as a plus
- This position is based in Oslo so you would need to either live in the area inand-around the city or be willing to move there.
- A valid driver’s licence
- Willingness to travel. It might be up to 50% travel at most depending on the time of the year and number of projects.
EU citizenship or a permanent work permit for working and travelling within the EU if needed and for training
