Role Overview
The IT Manager will hold overall responsibility for the company’s IT strategy and governance, acting as the key business partner for all technology-related matters. While day-to-day IT operations and support are outsourced, the role sets the direction, manages vendors, ensures compliance and security, and guarantees that the IT environment effectively supports a global, scaling organization.
This position combines strategic responsibilities with hands-on involvement and suits someone who thrives in a scale-up environment, shaping processes, roadmaps, and technological standards.
Key Responsibilities
IT Strategy & Governance
- Defines and maintains the IT strategy in alignment with business objectives, including R&D, clinical functions, GxP requirements, and future commercial needs.
- Develops and maintains IT policies, standards, and procedures (e.g., access control, data classification, backup and recovery).
- Establishes and owns governance processes such as demand management, prioritization, and change management.
Vendor & Service Management
- Serves as primary point of contact for external IT service providers and key SaaS vendors.
- Defines and monitors SLAs and performance metrics to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Manages contracts, renewals, and cost optimization across the IT vendor landscape.
Infrastructure, Applications & Architecture
- Owns the overall IT architecture, including networks, collaboration tools, identity management, endpoint strategy, and cloud services.
- Oversees the selection and governance of business applications (e.g., Microsoft 365, document management systems, ERP/finance systems, HRIS, clinical systems).
- Ensures well-designed integrations and dataflows to support business processes and reporting.
Cybersecurity, Compliance & Risk Management
- Holds overall accountability for IT security in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external experts.
- Implements and maintains security controls such as identity and access management, endpoint protection, and security awareness training.
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., GDPR, data privacy requirements, and GxP/clinical regulations).
- Conducts or coordinates IT risk assessments and drives remediation plans.
Support for a Global, Hybrid Workforce
- Ensures robust, secure, and user-friendly collaboration tools for employees across several international locations.
- Partners with People & Culture and functional leaders to support onboarding/offboarding and ensure a consistent IT experience.
- Drives user training and adoption of key systems and tools.
Planning & Budgeting
- Owns IT budget planning, forecasting, and monitoring.
- Builds business cases for new IT initiatives, including clear value and risk assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field; advanced degrees or relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CISM, PMP) are a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in IT, including at least 2 years in an IT leadership or IT manager role.
- Experience working with outsourced/managed service models and SaaS-heavy environments.
- Background in life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated industries is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience with:
- IT governance, policy development, and risk management
- Cybersecurity and implementation of practical security controls
- Cloud-based productivity and collaboration suites (e.g., Microsoft 365)
- Vendor management and contract/SLA negotiation
