Opportunity Overview
We are looking for a part CTO, part product manager, part team captain that can turn synthetic biology capabilities into tangible, on-time deliverables for real-world biomanufacturing for a leading industrial biotechnology company. The Project Lead in Microbial Strain Engineering will drive the development of next-generation production strains for biomanufacturing applications.
This role offers a unique opportunity to lead innovative R&D programs, mentor scientific teams, and shape cutting-edge technologies in synthetic biology and bioproduction.
Key Responsibilities

Lead, inspire, and manage research teams focused on microbial strain development.

Design and oversee experimental strategies to enhance strain productivity and robustness.

Manage project plans, technical milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time progress.

Provide expert guidance in genetic engineering, metabolic pathway optimization, and fermentation process development.

Communicate research outcomes and progress to internal leadership.

Contribute to broader R&D strategy and innovation initiatives.

Support the scaling and industrialization of new microbial platforms.
Candidate Profile

PhD in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Metabolic Engineering, or a related discipline.

10+ years of industrial experience in microbial strain engineering for bioprocesses.

Proven expertise in developing microbial production strains for proteins, enzymes, or metabolites.

Hands-on experience with microbial hosts such as Bacillus, E. coli, Corynebacterium, or yeasts like Pichia or S. cerevisiae.

Strong leadership and project management skills, with a track record of mentoring scientists.

Ability to troubleshoot complex biological systems and propose innovative solutions.

Excellent communication and documentation skills.
